WESLEYAN SUNDAY SCHOOL
“Let the little children come to me, and do not forbid them, for such is the kingdom of God.” Assuredly, I Say to you, whoever does not receive kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it” – Mark 10:14&15.
Jesus loved the the little children and He was greatly displeased when the disciples rebuked them. We need to bring our children to Christ.
Children are not a distraction from more important work. They themselves are the most important work. It is easier to build stronger children than to repair the broken men. Today’s children are the future of our church. Children are most receptive to the Gospel.
God loves us and want us to bring up the children into this world with His love and guidance, hence it is our responsibility to bring them to Christ.
Wesley Sunday School has a glorious history which was initiated in the early 1940’s but the real growth took place after 1960. Many leaders have prayerfully strived for the children Ministry. Rev. Reuben Jacob was one of the pioneers who with much dedication and whole heartedly took up this task of reaching the unreached children. It was in his time many pastors, evangelists and missionaries were raised. He has left a rich legacy in Wesley Sunday School. His ministry journey was taken up by his brother Mr. Newton Jacob alongwith Late Mr. Yesupatham and Late Mr. Paul Wesley Phillips were sincerely dedicated their time for the Sunday school ministry and they are our role models.
VISION: CHILD FOR CHRIST – Matthew 18:14
The vision of Sunday school is to lead every child to Christ.
MISSION : Sunday School being the foundation of our growth in faith, we spiritually nurture the little ones and help them to be deeply rooted in His word and in His love and to grow with Christian values. Every Sunday children join their parents in worship at 8 a.m. and disperse to Sunday school after the second Bible reading, prayed and blessed by our Pastor. Sunday School is held from 8.30 am to 10 am. We start with the opening prayer followed by praise and worship, short devotion and disperse to classes according to their age group which is graded as Beginners, Primary, Juniors, Inters, Seniors and Young Adults. Children are taught according to the syllabus selected for that particular year. Opening and Closing Prayer is done by the teachers before and after the Sunday School.
ACTIVITIES:
We conduct VBS every year in the month of April or May. 80% of the children who attend are non Christians who stay in and around our church area. It is a great opportunity to share the Word of God. We encourage our children to take part in various scripture exams and memory contests namely scripture exams conducted by Bangalore Civil Area Council, East Parade Malayalam Church, Bible Union of India etc., Our Sunday school children take part in church activities like Thanksgiving Service, Christmas Carol and Candle Light Service. Every year Sunday School Anniversary is celebrated as Children Sunday in the fourth sunday of November during the morning service wherein the children present variety of programmes based on the learnings over the year according to their grades.
Regular online Sunday School was conducted during the pandemic on Sundays from 4 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. Children who joined these classes were greatly blessed. The children memorise the verse which was given in the Sunday School and post the video in the Sunday School Whatsapp Group which is very encouraging.
